Ciao a tutti!
My name is Benjamin Cleary-Corradini, you can call me Benny as my friends and family do. As the founder of Benfatti, I would like to share with you a few details about myself and the genesis of the Benfatti organisation.
Firstly, the word 'Benfatti' does not mean ‘Ben is a fatty’ rather it is a composite word of the abbreviation of 'bene' and 'fatti'; meaning 'well made' in Italian. However, if you wish to remember it as ‘Ben is a fatty’ then that's okay with me - as long as you remember it and tell all your friends about it!
I am a proud young Italo-Australian. My father's side of the family 'Cleary' originally reign from county Clare in Ireland while my mother's side of the family 'Corradini' are from Italy's epicentre of Italian cuisine - Emilia Romagna in Northern Italy.
Over the past decade I have been lucky enough to visit and study in Italy which has made it impossible to not fall in love with my Italian heritage. My time in Italy is usually spent visiting relatives and sampling the authentic traditional dishes typical of their region. Luckily my relatives are spread across some of Italy’s most well-known, as well as secret, ‘foodie’ regions such as Emilia Romagna, Le Marche, Lombardia and Toscana.
My travels to Italy have taught me to appreciate simple yet beautiful flavours and I have come to realise that this is what true Italian cuisine is really all about - delicious simplicity.
My time in Italy has also opened my eyes to the fact that unfortunately; it is only those living in Italy, or visiting Italy, who may get to experience authentic Italian artisan food. While the Italian food sold here in Australia, and other parts of the world, is perhaps ‘made in Italy’ it’s most often food that has been mass produced in high tech factories under global brands which attempt to convince the consumer that these products are authentic ‘just like in Italy'.
My team and I here at Benfatti will change this trend. To do this, and bring something new to the Australian gourmet food industry, we travel to Italy several times a year and make good use of our family connections in Italy to 'scout out' new and exciting artisan foods. We also stay committed to selecting and passionately promoting traditional food products which have nearly come to the brink of disappearance.
To further share with you my genuine passion for Italy and my deep appreciation for small artisan producers I have started to host small (10 people maximum) exclusive artisan food and wine appreciation tours through the exquisite regions of Sardinia, Tuscany, Le Marche and Emilia Romagna. In each of these beautiful regions I introduce you to the very same artisan producers who I source from so that they can welcome you first hand and allow you to experience their beautiful local cuisine, delicacies and way of life.
Here at ‘Benfatti’ we don't mislead our customers, instead we offer something which is completely genuine. We are confident our products will bring immense joy to your meals and allow you to taste the same authentic food as if you were sitting at the dinner table in the homes of our authentic artisan producers while they encourage you to MANGIA...Mangia Bene!!
